How far will a reporter go to be successful
24 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I think the major point of this film is how far a reporter will go to make a name. Christopher Reeve plays a sheltered Ivy League grad who will do anything to be a TV anchor. He starts hanging around on the streets and gets naively involved to his own peril. He befriends a very scary pimp played by Morgan Freeman. Freeman's character was one of the scariest criminals. He used and abused his prostitutes and anyone who stood in his way. Instead of the news Network being horrified, everyone on the news station was along for a ride. Anything to make a sensational news story. The ending was a bit confusing, but I think the point was that in the end even the criminal is a victim of the ratings game. The pimp is shot and it is another opportunity for camera time for an aspiring reporter.
