Remember Last Night? review
20 April 2020
A glamorous but alcoholic couple awaken after a wild party of which they have only the haziest memories to find that their host has been murdered. It looks like Universal were trying to cash in on the runaway success of The Thin Man movies, but Robert Young and Constance Cummings are no Powell and Loy, and they come across as self-centred obnoxious bores as they and their friends drunkenly fire makeshift bombs at a yacht. It's a breezy enough comedy, but everything about Remember Last Night feels forced and fake, and the convoluted plot just adds to the irritation. Best thing by far is Arthur Treacher as a snooty butler who makes no attempt to hide his contempt for those whom he serves.
