Mussolini's 1st wife....minor spoilers
26 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
MINOR spoilers --Written and directed by Marco Bellocchio. The story of Mussolini and his mistress or first wife, Ida Dalser, played here by Giovanna Mezzogiorno. According to wikipedia dot org, it is unclear where they first met, or if they ever actually got officially married. In either case, after getting Ida pregnant, Mussolini married Rachele Guidi in 1915. Dalser had studied in Paris, and opened a beauty salon when she returned. Rough, rugged Filippo Timi is "Mussolini". lots of old, black and white footage, from various sources. revolution. war. flashing back and forth between stock footage and modern re-creating the scenes. Throughout the film, Mussolini never acknowledges the son Benito, and Ida continues the fight to be acknowledged. It's implied in the film, that Ida was locked up due to her own, public ravings about being ignored by Mussolini. Apparently, if she hadn't made so many public scenes, she could have gone on to live a quiet, more normal life. at least according to this version. Sadly, both Dalser and the son "Benito" were locked up, and both apparently knocked off. Ida at 57, and Benito Junior at 26. according to translation devices, "vincere" means to win, overcome, or defeat. It's good. but really long. could have said all that in much less time.
