Nothing new, but slightly humorous

Ocho Apellidos Catalanes is the sequel to Ocho Apellidos Vascos. Here we continue to follow the stories of Amaia, Rafa, Koldo, and Merche, with some new characters greeting us along the way. From the last film, we were left with a pear-shaped wedding between Rafa and Amaia, all to please her father. Since then Rafa had returned to Sevilla and Amaia finds herself in Catalan with her new fiance Pau. With the impending news of the recent engagement and soon to be wedding, Rafa makes it his mission to be there for it all, of course with the help of Koldo. With not much initial pleasure of seeing Rafa again, Amaia allows him to be present for the wedding festivities. Rafa tried a number of times to get Amaia's attention to explain that he is still in love with her but she brushes it aside claiming that she loves Pau.

This film follows the classic timeline of a past lover attempting to reclaim the person they lost before. Throughout there are humorous moments, especially between Rafa and Koldo. My personal favourite was when Rafa carries Koldo through the train station because Koldo refuses to step on the ground. I would suggest this film for a younger audience.

To not watch this movie you would not be missing out. The first one was fun and new, meeting the characters and getting to unpack each of their back stories. Though there are new characters involved in the second film, they are merely there as secondary characters, providing not much more substance to the overall experience. This movie would not follow the traditional hollywood script if it didn't end with the two old lovers back in each others arms. The predictability made it that much more unassuming but did tie it together nicely.
