Warning: Spoilers
If one wishes to watch a period piece based on Love vs. Addiction... this one being Gambling... this is a fascinating watch. How the writers directors, actors and cinematographers are able to tie in and develop multi-dimensional characters, places and settings is amazing. Gregory Peck commands the screen for portraying a man who observes what he sees as fools..only later to degrade himself in ways... which his character saw as weak and foolhardy in the opening scenes. Fantastic acting on his part, Ethel Barrymore, coming in to play out her moments is also a study in itself. Everyone from Agnes Moorhead to Melvyn Douglas are at their A game in this intense movie. One never knows where it will end... like the spinning of the roulette wheel... A surprise of an interesting ride on the study of addiction!
