Warning: Spoilers
After watching the 2018 TV mini-series version of the same Agatha Christie story, I thought it was about time to revisit, after many years, the 1984 film. And it's not as bad as I remembered; there have been worse Christie adaptations for sure. Yes it's dreary, joyless, plodding, cold, cloudy, foggy - but all that just seems to fit the downbeat mood of the story itself; this is not one of the "fun" Christies by any means. As others have said, the biggest drawback is Dave Brubeck's overbearing score, which sometimes drowns out the dialogue; also annoying are the frequent voice-overs where we hear snippets of dialogue replayed - in some cases, only seconds after we had heard that same dialogue for the first time! ** out of 4.
