Green Inferno (1973)

Absurd and ridiculously made Tarzan movie with action , adventures , fights and African wildlife
9 July 2020
Below average and disconcertingly free rendition based on Edgar Edgar Rice Burroughs characters and with no copyright . This film is the Spanish version of the King of the Jungle and stars Richard Yesteran , Cesar Bruner , Julián Ugarte ; it is an inferior Tarzan movie with emotion , adventures , tough battles between Tarzan and enemies , underwater scenes , and marvelous but inappropriate outdoors , being mostly stock-shots . At the beginning , set in London where the Foreign Office sends a group of agents commanded by Steve Kendall (César Burner) and a expert team of four fighter girls (Didi Sherman, Rebeca Romer..) to take down a dangerous ex-Nazi with sinister activities , as he is causing wreak havoc , unrest and mayhem among African tribes . As the skilled multi-national secret intelligence agents posing as a priest and four nuns arrive in Africa to investigate . As the Nazi war criminal named Franz Von Harlan (Julián Ugarte) is a gunrunner selling weapons to the African tribes who fight each other . Franz Von Herlan lives in an underground cavern surrounded by an immense treasure formed by gold bars and accompanied by a harem of Odaliscas (Lynn Endersson, Marina Ferri ..) . But then in the African jungle appears Tarzan along with his chimpanzee (Cheeta-alike) and he join forces with the disguised agents to smack down the nasty enemy . The weird Frank Von harlen lives at a strange location , a valuable grotto hidden in the jungles of Africa, ¨The Golden cave¨ , a secret cave whose whereabout is hard to find . While the ominous ex-Nazi is attempting to transport a gold cargo throughout the African jungle , but Tarzan manages to explode the barge . Later on , the group of undercover agents and Tarzan are threatened by the villain Andrews (Gaspar Indio Gónzalez) , a Frank's hoodlum , but he doesn't take kindly the threat and executes against the evil-doer an extreme lesson . At the ending Tarzan takes on the presumably hostile natives and finds the position of the ostentous cave and confronts the powerful contender and his henchmen .

In the film there are silly nasty enemies , extensive views of the Safari Parks and menageries with a lot of wildlife , and many other things . The movie is a bore and dubiously faithful to Edgar Rice Borroughs story , including some scenes at least bearable , yet laughable . It contains noisy action , sensational adventures , many angry natives , ominous white hunters , several fun underwater scenes as well as inappropriate outdoors . It is lousy picture , as the acting is campy and the dialog childish . I'd skip this mess and rent a vintage Tarzan film from the 1940s . Embarrassing as well as absurd and kiddie screenplay it's not enough to save this second rate or make it 3rd rate rip-off of the typical Tarzan adventure movies . There are some nice views of the local area , and charming girls , as some agents masked for attractive nuns , as a harem plenty of jealous women , but aside from that the film turns out to be a flop . The film is lousily performed by Richard Yesteran . This apocryphal Tarzan dressed in loins, including a bouncer lookalike style was a good-looking boy to pursue an acting career , citing Johnny Weissmuller as a childhood influence , though his career had sparse glory . He interpreted two Tarzan produced by Profilmes (considered to be the ¨Spanish Hammer¨) , as Richard Yesteran starred : ¨Tarzan Y El Misterio De La Selva¨(1973) by Miguel Iglesias Bonn and ¨Tarzan Y El Tesoro De Kawana¨ by José Truchado. In Spain his character was referred to as "Tarzan" , but when they were released in English-language territories they directly avoided mentioning the Tarzan name to avoid copyright foes .Here is also briefly familiar faces in the support cast such as : Julian Ugarte as the mercenary who is running guns to African tribes , Gaspar 'Indio' González , Didi Sherman , Lynn Endersson, José Lifante , among others

This is a pretty bad and cheesy Tarzan movie , though , subsequently , become a ¨Cult movie¨ for some Frikis aficionados to these kinds of weird products . Other Spanish Tarzan movies and in similar style are the following ones : ¨Tarzan in the the Golden grotto¨ and "Tarzan and the Brown Prince" directed by Manuel Caño , stars fan-favorite Steve Hawkes in the title role . Being financed in very short budget by J.A. Pérez Giner from Profilms Productions . This Spanish Produced Exploitation motion picture was lousily directed by Miguel Iglesias Bonns , under pseudonym , though resulted to be an inferior Tarzan film . Iglesias was a skill and successfully craftsman who directed all kinds of genres . Iglesias Bonns often used same actors and shot in low budgets . As he made thrillers : Barcelona Connection , Estambul 68 , Después del gran robo, Primavera mortal , Fuga de Amberes ; Drama : Una rosa al viento, Desnuda inquietud , Carta a una mujer ,Violación inconfesable ; Adventures : La isla de las vírgenes ardientes , Kilma, reina de las amazonas , La diosa salvaje , Tarzán y el misterio de la selva ; Historical : Las hijas del Cid and terror : Presagio , La maldición de la bestia with Paul Naschy . Rating : 3/10. Two thumbs down.
