Valuable effort of Alan Ladd as self-reliant, bitter and ungodly of the human race!!!
19 July 2020
The early speech introducing how important was the Post Office as American institution gave to the movie a slavish semi documentary, sounds as sponsored offer, however brings the bitter and ungodly of the human race the Inspector All Goddard (Alan Ladd) who take over a strange case which his predecessor was found death in the alley, the smart Goddard quickly finds a devoted Nun Sister Augustine (Phyllis Calvert) who was at crime scene accidently on that night and recognized one of the killers George Soderquist (Harry Morgan), unfortunately the key person disappears without a trace, then Goddard has to change his early plan and has an dangerous approaching of the gang to get them on the acting of the upcoming robbery, here the screenplay has an interesting clash of assessment between two unequal personal point of views Goddard and his contempt over the people and Sister Augustine believing in a divine providence allowed to mankind, the casting is really great with Paul Stewart and Jan Sterling playing quite often a B-girl, also the leery and bad temper crook Joe Regas (Jack Webb), fine movie aside the cold and self-reliant Alan Ladd!!
