BREAKING IN is yet another home invasion thriller, but this time one which is handled in a familir, play-it-safe Hollywood kind of way which saps the production of both thrills and suspense. Gabrielle Union plays a distraught mother thrown into the unenviable situation of having her own children held hostage by a merciless gang. Mostly watching this consists of spotting the writer joining the dots by throwing in extra characters who can get bumped off, while time and again Union escapes from various predicaments in a way which stretches credulity. The quality of the acting is also poor, although with these stock, one-dimensional characters that's little surprise.
