On The Town (1949) : Brief Review -

MGM's Superhit Musical with legends Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra in which each and every single musical deserves a separate mention. 'They don't make such musicals nowadays' well they say it for reasons and here's one reason out of 100. I live in a generation where even average musicals like 'La La Land', 'Star Is Born' (2018), 'Chicago' are considered good-very good but for me these are simply overrated in all time lists. The major chunk of audience from this generation might never realise the quality of old musicals but i am glad to have watched many of them and to have realised what we are missing today. On The Town reminded me the same thing again, yes we are missing such a great musicals in digital era. A simple story of three sailors spending one full day in New York is splendid as well as amusing. Each and every single musical in this film deserves a special and a special viewing. How amazingly these musicals are composed, written and choreographed. Not a single moment i remember when i had to lose that grin smile on my face. With legends like Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra it explores even better. I don't know why but multistarrer musicals always feel better than solo (all time classics are excluded) musicals as the atmosphere becomes more crowded and engaging. Those three dames Betty Garrett, Ann Miller and Vera Ellen just not look beautiful but also dance beautifully. One of the major triumphant part is its writing. Despite several changes from the Broadway musical it has fantastic moments, good comedy, great musical, engaging screenplay and awesome conclusive portion. Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly's direction is superb. It was kind of dragged in that segment where the entire day is repeated in brief because of dark theatrical theme but then again it picks up from where it was left and ends with a perfect, touching send off. Highly recommended for Musical Lovers.
