Awesome story of an Opera star.
22 February 2021
I had not heard anything about this film or read any reviews on the picture. But is was nominated for more Oscars in 1934 than any other film -including IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT !! So I thought I'd give it a try - not really a "fair" try but a try (hey, you have to wash dishes sometime). When Grace Moore hit her first operatic piece, I nearly dropped a dish: WHAT A VOICE!!! I think she may be better than Jeanette MacDonald. All of the pieces she sings are amazing and she was definitely a beautiful woman. It's a shame her life ended so abruptly. The story of an opera star who wants to make it big is almost predictable but with Moore working the songs, I ended up leaving the dished and went in to totally become immersed in the film. It's a short film but serves its purpose. Totally entertaining to the point of almost being a guilty pleasure. More people need to take the time to find this gem.
