Gangster Squad is the (Mostly) real life story of hard as nails 1940's Los Angeles cop Sergeant John O'Mara played excellently by Josh Brolin who is tasked with forming a special unit of misfit cops to take down notorious gangster Mickey Cohen played by Sean Penn.
It looks cool as hell, has a great cast including Ryan Gosling, Michael Pena and Emma Stone, it's full of violent and bloody action scenes and overall is a very easy and fun watch for fans of action and cop movies.
Will it blow your mind? Probably not.
Is Sean Penn's makeup a bit silly looking? Yes.
Is it as good as the Untouchables? Hell no but this is still a very cool movie.
