I really, really tried. Like so many others. First of all I would like to mention I'm a woman (because if I should believe some of the reviews here, only fantasy romance loving women should review this movie). A fantasy/ romance loving woman. I can read these kind of novels 24/7. But, this book I haven't gotten the chance to read just yet. I thought I would start of with the movie. Starting with a clean slate. I'm going to be brutally honest. I tried to like it, because we all know that there aren't many of these kind of movies out there. The movie was well cast, well the two protagonists were. Jury 'a still out on the rest of them. That's the one plus. The rest of it; the camera wasn't managed, the overal mood of the scenes was just overly saturated and didn't give it that 'moody' feeling you get when watching for example shadow-hunters, it gave me a hallmark movie kinda feeling. Then the acting. I really wanted to like the acting, but it felt rushed. Like it was read from script. Even between the two protagonists. Cheesy romantic lines that didn't sound sincere. The romance that came out of nowhere. No character building. Rushed. Like when the girl was shot and laying in the hospital-bed, I just thought to myself: 'Girl, breathe!'. She was spitting out her lines and I almost wanted to get her a oxygenmask. You do you haha. Anywho, I for one didn't like the script. I don't blame the actors, but the story just didn't come full circle, even if it did follow the book (which I wouldn't know ofcourse), it didn't make sense. I really wanted to love it, but it just became one of those movies of which Fantasy critics can point at and say 'told you so'. Maybe you'll love it, I hope you do. I really do. Meanwhile I'm going to go back to reading, hoping that one day, after flops like this movie, or the movie 'fallen' (hated the movie, loved the book! Go read it! It's wonderful!), a great movie rises from the ashes of the bad ones. Let's hope.
