The single best thing about this film was the genuinely creepy look of Noriaki Kamata as the villian. Combined with the cinematography, he was probably the only positive note on this film, and at that.. was criminally underused
given no actual speaking part of matter.
The beautiful and talented Asami was treated even worse, given zero lines of dialogue and subjected to appearing nude in every single scene in the film was an insult to her abilities.
I cannot speak for the other markets, but feel that Western audiences grew tired of the hair tossing 90's rock star bravado of the ??hero?! Way back in the 90's.
(OMG!- he threw his crutch down! ..cue guitar solo!) Spoiler alert- if I have this straight, it is a simple revenge flick, of the killing of an innocent, although the killing of two innocents by the protagonist, notwithstanding the body mutilation of the heroine, is conveniently overlooked.
