Right Off The Bat, "The Fool" Is Worth Your Time.

"Durak", or "The Fool" in English, is an interesting film. Given that it's a Russian movie which indicts Russia's own corrupt government (not the central government, but a 30K people-sized city), it's a surprise the film was even made at all. From my outsider's point of view, it was an eye-opening take of a "dorm" (nice word for "government housing" or "the projects") that exists in that part of the world. To be fair, the dorm was no where near as criminally bad as the "banlieus" of France, "favelas" of Brazil, or inner-city Brooklyn projects; still, the disdain for which the "normal" people in that town have for those dorm dwellers is pathetic. I'm glad films like these are made to expose corruption so deep and far reaching. Whether it's true or not, I don't have a clue. Nevertheless, it's worth watching for its cautious entertainment value alone.
