Married... with Children (1987–1997)

Show was great to a point
8 July 2021
This show was at it's peak towards the beginning, with it's sharper dialogue, more clever storylines, better cast chemistry, relatable topics done in a humorous way, etc. The , something like around season 6 or 7, most episodes weren't as good or they were filler episodes (ie the clip shows, The Chicago Shoe Exchange, etc). There were the occasional good episodes that were engaging and felt relevant, like the episodes revolving around Al and Griff standing up to women breastfeeding in public and the episode where Al retrains Peggy to be a better housewife when she had amnesia) but most episodes were juvenile and cartoonish and thus weren't as fun to watch. The worst season by far during the downhill period was Season 11, minus The Stepford Peg and Crimes Against Obesity that were actually good. The episodes ranged from bad, like A Babe In Toyland Trash and Desperate Half Hour, to filler like Chicago Shoe Exchange and Twisted that felt mostly pointless and some were good in concept but done too late to be believable like the 3 part episode where Al and Peg separate that seems like it was meant for an earlier season which would've been the more logical place to have shown it. Some of the lines reflected this, like Kelly and Bud suddenly acting like children who are sad about the prospect of Al being divorced by Peggy. This always felt misjudged to me. Probably indicative of the creative team running out of ideas for good episodes. It's easy to see why they quit at season 11. Frankly, they probably should've quit at season 9 because season 10 was almost as bad with so many of it's outlandish and silly episodes signaling what was to come. I recommend watching seasons 1-6 when things were at their general best and researching which episodes were good later.
