G.I. Joe (1985–1986)
7/10
Good old fashioned fun...

The mid-1980s animated series "G. I. Joe" definitely played a huge part of my childhood, as I grew up watching this as a kid, and also series such as "Masters of the Universe", "M. A. S. K." and such.

But the simplicity of the "G. I. Joe" series really made it an easily accessible show for children, and that was definitely something that I remember fondly. I mean, you have the traditional good vs evil (G. I. Joe vs Cobra) here.

Being a cartoon series aimed at a younger audience, of course there are no deaths or insane violence to be experienced here. Sure, there is a great amount of shooting and fighting, but people always avoid getting hit and manage to bail out in the last possible moment. So yeah, there is action, but also thrills and excitement here for the audience.

I revisited the series again recently, and I must admit that it is still a very enjoyable series. Sure, it is corny and cheesy at times, not to mention overly predictable and stereotypical. But it is good old fashioned fun and excitement.

The series has an abundance of characters in the stories, some given more on-screen time and attention than others. But as a whole, then it is a well-rounded character gallery. And that goes for both sides of the conflict; both the G. I. Joes and the Cobras. Funny, how the bad guys always have the more cool-looking outfits.

If you look at the series and the events that take place with adult eyes and critical goggles, then there are just so many things that makes little or no sense. But hey, aimed at a younger audience, then such issues are not of any concern.

"G. I. Joe" is something I enjoyed as a child, and it is something that I still actually enjoy today, well into my mid-40s.

My rating of the classic "G. I. Joe" series from 1985-1986 lands on a well-deserved seven out of ten stars.
