A strange belated sequel to the '50s classic. Generally more of a typical gung-ho war movie than anything. Chris Penn is an unusual choice for lead, not one I would have gone for myself, and a far cry from William Holden in the original. Denholm Elliott and Edward Fox are better but they don't really have a great deal to work with here. Nice to see some Japanese actors although they're stuck in stock villain roles; if you want to watch a much better and similar WW2 film from the era, I'd go for MERRY CHRISTMAS, MR. LAWRENCE.
