The Nevers (2021–2023)
6/10
It's complicated...

First, production and special effects is 10/10. Hands down. Visually very impressive.

Acting is also convincing 9/10. Sometimes they talk too fast but not a big deal.

The plot however is missing substance. The plot and writing is a 6/10 which really brings down the whole rating considering the story is the heart of anything we watch. Or at least for me it is..

Let me explain. The creativity in the writing is amazing and quite intelligent. However, the dialogue between characters is too often fast spoken, mechanical and shallow. There isn't enough depth. No relationship in the story has any substance or deeper connection as cheesy as it sounds. But the worst part is it doesnt allow the viewer the chance to build intimacy with the characters (or at least the protagonists). It's not enough to just show their background stories and hardships, the viewer needs to see and feel the characters struggling in real moral dilemmas. But instead you will find that every character is always certain and so sure of their decisions. There is not a single moment of inner struggle or doubt. So it felt impersonal and a bit inhuman. The characters dont need to know their words are written for them if you know what I mean.

Because of all that I couldnt bring myself to care for them...I guess that's what really ruined it for me. And if you can't care for the characters then you definitely can't care for the plot/story.

That being said it's still worth watching and very enjoyable, but dont expect to get emotionally pulled by what you see. That's why it's the type of show you can watch while doing the dishes or other chores around the house.
