The Big Score (1990)
7/10
Typical but decent

THE BIG SCORE is a typical Hong Kong action flick with diverse elements mainly focused on comedy and gambling - two topics perenially popular with local audiences. It starts off with Anthony Wong playing an undercover cop bringing down a crime boss, then includes a shocking scene involving rape and child murder. At this point the tone shifts with Danny Lee and Wong Jing teaming up as partners to bring down the aforementioned boss and Wong is forgotten about. Lee feels on autopilot here but Jing shines in a likeable comic relief role and there's some decent action added to the mix. The scenes with the blind sister are particularly funny and the gambling is handled in an entertaining fashion. No great shakes when it comes to originality or taste, but it all comes together nicely come the end.
