still watch but so poorly done

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoy Agatha Christie and period detective stories and can put up with a lot. I have seen the first two episodes. I agree with other comments on here about the perplexing portrayal of Tommy. Now I haven't read the books in a long time so not sure of original characterization.

I was genuinely confused in this story. I couldn't figure out the initial bookie episode and what was going on with them hiring a new Jane? Why did they want another person to live in Paris? And yet it was not discussed with the uncle to explain it. Did I miss it? Why was Jane associated with both the good guys and the bad guys? Shouldn't that have been laid out more? Even at the end was it explained?

And then the actual unfolding of the mystery was clunky. Who sent the pictures was just ignored. Shouldn't they have asked more questions before relying on them? I guess putting on a murder mystery/period thriller can be messed up. I would have predicted it as cookie cutter and resilient.

The Little Songbird's review is excellent. It is funny how the main actress left Call the Midwife and I believe expressed a desire to move past the repressive 60s role. And yet this role seems to be something similar . But there was definitely something about her acting here - while much better than the male lead - it did seem lacklustre.

I will watch another storyline but this does not looking promising.
