God awful slow and uneventful...
29 August 2021
So what did the waters leave behind? Boredom for starters.

I was lured in to watch the 2017 horror movie "What the Waters Left Behind" (aka "Los olvidados") given the movie's cover and the fact that this was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen. Yeah, I really liked the design of the cover for this movie, and seeing it was a guarantee win-me-over moment.

Sure, I hadn't even heard about "What the Waters Left Behind" prior to getting to sit down to watch it here in 2021. So I wasn't sure what the movie was about, nor what to expect. So writers Luciano Onetti, Nicolás Onetti and Carlos Goitia had every opportunity to impress me here.

I made it about halfway through the ordeal that is known as "What the Waters Left Behind", then I just gave up out of sheer and utter boredom. Nothing interesting had happened, aside from a headbashing moment in the very beginning of the movie. So the pacing of the storytelling in "What the Waters Left Behind" was just atrociously slow, boring and uneventful. So directors Luciano Onetti and Nicolás Onetti lost me along the way, and I am not getting back in the boat.

The acting in the movie was so-so. Nothing outstanding here really. But then again, it wasn't really reflecting well on the actors and actresses that the character gallery in the movie was every bit as mundane and boring as the storyline. And the inferior dialogue wasn't really selling the movie all that well either.

In terms of this being a horror movie, then this was a swing and a miss. Hardly anything going on here that would be classified as horror, unless you consider being bored to tears horror.

My rating of the 2017 movie "What the Waters Left Behind" lands on a mere three out of ten stars. At least they tried.
