A Movie Museum Piece
4 September 2021
The film that took radio star Bob Hope to movie stardom in which he gets to sing Thanks For The Memory that won the 1939 Oscar. What we have is a comedy revue with musical interludes that showcase radio stars of the era in the third sequel and 4th Big Broadcast movie. Generally for todays audiences it is no longer really funny and often rather irritating more than amusing. However it is full of historical interest and the references to the Titanic disaster of just 26 years earlier seem incredibly insensitive. Still WC Fields saves the DVD while the duet with Bob Hope and and Shirley Ross is truly quiet marvellous, so as a window to the past it serves very well.
