VIVID VINTAGE TECHNICOLOR...WIDE-OPEN...ONE-FITS-ALL WESTERN
10 September 2021
The Hollywood Movie Machine Peaked in 1939 and the Film Industry was Humming along.

This one was made just Prior to America's Entry into WWII that Intruded on Everyone and Everything American and the Juggernaut was Halted.

The Grandeur and Spectacle of Film-Making at its Finest is Evident in this Fritz Lang Western as it Showcases the Glorious Entertainment of the most Popular Art-Form of the 20th Century.

Overall, the Movie has something for Everyone. A Truly Mass-Marketed Film for the Masses.

The Combination of Entertaining Elements are all Given Screen-Time to make its Mass-Appeal a Foregone Conclusion.

But what Occurs in this Type of "One-Fits-All" Hodgepodge is, while the Whole is Complete, the Parts Suffer with a Diluted Picture.

The Romance is Distracting, the Comedy Relief is Overbearing at times, and the Montage becomes Clunky and the Extravagant Show is Stopped much too often.

Given its Due, the Film is Highly Entertaining in a Broad Sense.

The Technicolor Images Melt the Screen, the Cast with Randolph Scott Highlighting, all the other Characters Pale in Comparison, make this a Watchable Populist Western.

But the Decision to make it such a Fluff-Piece Holds it Back from Becoming one of the Greats in the Genre.
