Not content with shows destroying Macguyver, the studios had to do worse. For the slow witted studio execs, a show about a detective in Hawaii is not a special idea and has no magical appeal. The secret sauce was Tom Selleck, who is Magnum. He made the show a success and is always going to own the name. Casting a random low charisma actor and slapping the name Magnum on him has zero chance of success.
