What isn't bad is just plain boring. Hard pass.

Dialogue is tawdry and annoying, including no few pointed references along the way. Plot is unremarkable and thin. Supporting characters are annoying and thin. Nudity is gratuitous and unnecessary, and the camera likewise lingers lasciviously and shamelessly on women's bodies. Scene writing is dubious, awkward, and embarrassing. The insertion of character background feels terribly forced and inorganic. At least the scenery looks nice.

Sure, I'm specifically describing the first 20 minutes of the movie. But you know what? It doesn't get any more convincing. To be honest, 'Killer mermaid' is a bit of a chore.

It's not the absolute worst movie I've ever seen. I at least kind of like Nikola Jeremic's score, even if it's over the top at times. But there's nothing about this that exceeds a level of quality any greater than "average." It's difficult to say that 'Killer mermaid' has tension and suspense to impart when the narrative is so entirely unremarkable, and ordinary. Sparing minor details are all that distinguish this film from many others of comparable pablum, but those small details do nothing to save what we're watching, let alone improve it. And amidst all this stunning mediocrity, it's impossible to meaningfully assess the cast's performances - they could actually very well be good actors, but we'll never know from features like this that so completely, inherently diminish the players' value.

With half an hour left in the runtime I was utterly bored. I kept watching out of a masochistic sense of obligation to finish what I had started, but there was simply no worth to be found. I suppose it's true that there are yet still worse movies you could subject yourself to, but as it is this picture places us so low in the depths of cinematic tedium that diving further could be considered medically inadvisable. Even the climax is rendered wholly inert.

A small part of me feels bad being so critical; a lot of work goes into making any movie. But if you're going to put in the effort, why not make sure that it counts? What isn't poorly written or executed in 'Killer mermaids' is simply stale and uninteresting, and this very plainly isn't deserving of your time.
