Comedy that works
16 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A likeable and feel-good British comedy of 1944, made for viewers wanting to take their minds off the darkness of real life. This one has Richard Greene leading an ensemble cast in the tale of a ruthless aristocrat trying to lord it over the good-natured villagers; oh, and there just happens to be an ancestral ghost along for the ride. It's one of those films. The humour works surprisingly well and there are lots of funny moments; it also appears to have directly inspired the TV series KEEPING UP APPEARANCES.
