You know, I feel kind of bad that it has taken me to long to watch this movie. It was a rare example of a film I came to know through reviews and commentary a long time before I watched it.
This could have been made for me since it's an eerie animation with fairytale imagery. Everything in it sort of looks home-made because it is; but everything about it is professional and polished and nothing feels redundant.
A simple narrative of devotion in which the characters (much like their creator I only now realise) commit to the beauty that can be created by mortal hands.
Lyrical, unpretentious and low-key eerie all the time, I really feel we just need so much more of this kind of thing.
