"If I stay, you're gonna get me killed."

Warning: Spoilers
Was there any reason for Bruce Willis to be in this movie? I think not.

Quite honestly, there's only one reason I watched this film - I thought the title was kind of cool. I wasn't sure what switchgrass was, but the picture revealed it was ordinary grass grown to seed, much like any overgrown patch of lawn left to mature into a field. The story itself isn't all that bad, and Emile Hirsch acquits himself well as the Florida Law Enforcement officer Byron Crawford. But how do you explain Willis's character simply gone missing in action when the tension ratchets up with the serial killer? I've had this nagging dread of watching any more of Willis's throwaway films of the last few years. But like a fly drawn to sugar, I keep coming back hoping for some revelation. He makes these pictures like John Wayne did in the Thirties with his many B Westerns; he's got two more completed and seven more in post-production as I write this according to the stats here on IMDb. No wonder his appearances are little more than cameos.

Tell you what, if you go into this picture knowing Willis is in it, but not expecting anything from him, I guess you'll be alright. I found a certain satisfaction to the resolution of the story when the serial murderer's own daughter gave him away when she said, "He came for the person in the grass". Good job there Bethany, your Dad was a slime ball.

Addendum**** It was only the very next day after posting this review that I learned of Bruce Willis's diagnosis of aphasia, a disorder resulting from damage or injury to a specific area of the brain. So without changing my original post, I would just like to apologize for the flippant attitude in this and other recent reviews of his films. There was a reason for the lack of substance in his cameo-like appearances, and that reason has now been revealed. Godspeed Mr. Willis, to you and your family.
