The Revenger's Comedies or Sweet Revenge was a very quirky film. This is the dark comedy that begins with the chance meeting of two individuals who are attempting to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge...and it is coincidence as Karen Knightly (played by Helen Bonham Carter) meant to jump off a different bridge entirely. The two strike up a conversation and like strangers on a train make a revenge pact. Karen to kill Henry Bell's nemesis...the man who cost him his job, Bruce Tick, and Henry to kill the woman who stole Karen's man, Imogen Staxton Billing. Henry ends up at Karen's very eccentric countryside manse with her equally eccentric brother Oliver and staff.
The maid, Winnie (played by Liz Smith), is a real scene stealer and great for a lot of comic relief. The funniest scene has to be the hunting duel "accident".
A surprising ending draw this film to a close.
This was more odd than dark, but was good for a few laughs. It was fun to see Doc Martin lead, Martin Clunes...but the long hair was not a good look on him. Definitely a watch and delete...but Helen Bonham Carter was her delightful self!
