An Interesting First Foray into the Ealing Comedy for Me
3 April 2022
I was pleasantly surprised by this film, it didn't leave a massive impression but certainly subverted my expectations and was an interesting first foray into the Ealing comedy for me.

The cast was all good, the standout being Alec Guiness who was so sympathetic a protagonist that you can't help but wish the world would give him a break. He is supported by a talented ensemble, with standouts being Cecil Parker and Michael Gough, but the film is really carried on his shoulders. I was surprised at the quality of the cinematography and while the effects are certainly aged they still look decent. All this coupled with a story that was a surprisingly depressing social commentary came together to make a film which, if not outstanding, was certainly enjoyable. I don't know if I would necessarily call it a comedy but it was good nevertheless. 7/10.
