Charlton Heston's , "Dances With Woofs"

Warning: Spoilers
A few years back, I found this on one of those $1 DVDs they would sell in discount stores. Starring Heston, I thought this would be an epic style picture.

As most know of Call of The Wild, it's a story about the canine in the picture and not so much about the human beings. Well here, it's the opposite. With Heston having creative control, the story , nearly, revolves around his character.

Its still a fairly watchable picture , although it seemed like there was more than 30 minutes of footage of dog sledding and scenes overwhite with snow. I realize it's setting but a little less dog sledding and more acting, action and even better dialog would have helped.

I was impressed with the scene of the massive stampede, the abilities of the dog in the movie and even Heston had aa few good moments but not enough. The surrounding actors , were quite underutilized.

I think if they had stuck with the original story in the book, they could have had much better results. Having seen the recent Harrison Ford version, it's a prime example of what this could have been. - After much thought, four stars . (END)
