. . . C. O. P. D., more often than not it's off to the glue factory for Trigger. Of course, Roy had the ACTUAL Trigger stuffed to decorate his den, and many less photogenic nags end up at various pet food rendering plants. The bottom line, as Boy's dad points out here, is that the kindest fate for these geezer critters is to put them out of their misery ASAP. As Elvis learned from the horse's mouth in Old S-h-e-p, if there's a Dog Heaven where good doggy's go, such gassed or lethally injected or shot family pets will all have wonderful homes. The friendly local tanner tries to explain this to Boy during THE SMALL ONE, but the young lad lives in denial, deluded that he's living on a planet where an endless succession of Corgi canines can keep queens humming along for three score and ten years at a stretch.
