Rookie school teacher Anne Leeds (Jean Simmons) takes a part-time secretary job at a nightclub owned by Mr. Rocco and Tony Armotti (Anthony Franciosa). There is friction between Tony and Anne.
Tony is all anger and not that appealing. He's playing an old style reformed hood character. The movie is doing the standard enemies-turned-lovers. I'm not really into him and Jean Simmons can be above-it-all. I can see all the romantic constructions. I just need to love these two a bit more. It's telling that the relationship is left unresolved. I'm not sure myself. I actually like the side characters more. I love the Patsy Bjork-lookalike character the most and there's also the busboy Hussein. Anne is probably better off with the other teacher although girls always like their bad boys.
