Review of Ardh

Ardh (2022)
9/10
Sad reality of "real " talent !
12 June 2022
With big directors running behind all sorts of gangster drama films that cash in lots of money, hats off to Palash Muchchal (Less known as director but well known as the music composer) for bringing to us a burning realistic topic to veiwers and its so sad to see it premiere on zee 5 with hardly any veiwers rather than on a big screen .

Ardh is presented in such a simple and down to earth manner with absolutely no over the top drama or masala that it gives off a nice, simple yet heart wrenching experience . Shiva , a poor man, dreams to be an actor but in the process has to do odd jobs to keep his family feeded. Will he succeed in becoming an actor despite all odds is the main story .

Its a short film with no subplots and the good thing is the director completely focuses on the main plot without deviation. Moreover, at no point is the film boring. It holds on to your attention till the end. You really keenly keep watching the film to see when is that point that we finally get to see Shiva get his dream job and leave his odd jobs he does.

The short twist at the end is...well i wont say much else it would ruin your experience. The film tries to showcase how physical attributes and money dominate the film industry than real talent. This is the fault of audience, not the producers as they want to bring in front of the screen only those actors whom audience would find attractive rather than someone who has immense talent.

Rajpal Yadav is the perfect selection for the role of Shiva. Why? See...Forget his on screen condition, even off screen he has never risen beyond a small side character meant only for comedy. Barely I think a film or two (including this one) he has been in the lead. No producer would risk casting Rajpal in the lead as audience would not turn up although as a side actor he has left a lasting impact on the 90s generation. That is why I say his role in this film feels so authentic and almost like a depiction of his own self and many more struggling actors. Rajpal's character has little shades of "Joker" as well. This is one of his best performances in recent time where he has been properly utilized .

Other than that, many are complaining about the weak technical aspects / execution of this film. See, the makers of this film are not some SS Rajamouli or Rajkumar Hirani something. Palash is not known for his movie direction so they aren't as talented as the more known faces but his main objective was to showcase us a burning topic with simplicity and low budget hence please don't watch this film expecting some masterpiece out of the world content . Just try to understand what this film wants to tell you. I can say the makers put in lots of love while making this film and I highly appreciate their work. For me, it wasnt a mediocre work, it was a really good work they have done with this film.

A recommended film for all to watch.
