This is never going to be up there among the classic comic movies, but it's a pleasant way to fill a couple of hours. There are plenty of cliches here, but the movie is carried forward by Robert Mitchum, George Kennedy and Martin Balsam. Balsam, as the ne'er-do-well mayor, is particularly enjoyable. The western scenery is especially beautiful. There are worse ways to spend an evening.
