California Split (1974) is a movie that I recently watched on Amazon Prime. The storyline follows a casual gambler who meets a compulsive gambler one night and they become best friends. As they get closer they sink into a world of obsession and debt. Can they put their heads together and solve each other's problems?

This movie is directed by Robert Altman (The Player) and stars George Segal (2012), Elliott Gould (Ocean's Eleven), Ann Prentiss (My Stepmother is an Alien), Gwen Welles (Desert Hearts) and Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park).

This is a movie that is very unique with fantastic characters, circumstances, acting and dialogue. The movie is unpredictable with random situations for our characters to overcome and reminded me of Uncut Gems in a lot of ways. The audience gets anxiety as the characters make their decisions. There is a lot of humor mixed in with the depressing nature of how the characters operate. The entire movie feels very realistic from beginning to end.

Overall this is far from a classic but is still worth a viewing. I would score this a 6.5/10 and strongly recommend it.
