Ruthless dirty cop Jonathan Parker (well played to the slimy hilt by Rufus Sewell) blackmails London mob boss Joseph Corso (an excellent Gabriel Byrne) so he can apprehend elusive thief Riley (a fine portrayal by Toby Stephans), only to have his intricate scheme backfire.
Writer/director George Isaac relates the compelling and complex story at a brisk pace, maintains a gritty no-nonsense tone throughout, stages the rousing action with rip-roaring aplomb, and delivers plenty of twists and turns to keep viewers on their toes. This film further benefits from a tip-top cast: Elsa Pataky as the two-fisted Sophie Peters, Lee Gregory as straight arrow copper Dixon, Julian Sands as double-crossing lackey George Cutter, Terence Maynard as tough detective Sands, and Ralph Brown as shrewd fence McDeer. A really neat movie.
