A Sweet Movie that Has a Good Heart
25 October 2022
I am infatuated with Olivia Munn so anything she is in is going to get at least a 6 rating from me. She is absolutely stunning in this movie and the rest of the cast does their best to give the movie depth.

Jack (Sam Claflin) and Dina (Olivia Munn) had a romantic weekend many years before in Rome while visiting friends, but then lost touch. Several years later, they reunite at the wedding of Jack's sister, Hayley (Eleanor Tomlinson) and Roberto (Tiziano Caputo). Other guests include Chaz (Allan Mustafa) and Amanda (Freida Pinto) an engaged couple who hate each other. Jack's best friend, Bryan (Joel Fry) and his wife, Rebecca (Aisling Bea) are a overly sexual couple. Then there is Sidney (Tim Key) who is a self absorbed nerd trying to pick up someone at the weeding and Marc (Jack Farthing) who had a one night stand with the bride and crashes the wedding as he thinks they are in love.

The fun comes when Jack is supposed to spike Marc's champagne, but a bunch of unsupervised kids start rearranging the seating cards. (which is why you don't bring kids to a wedding). The unique thing is the movie plays out the story of what happens when its Bryan who gets the spiked drink (hint: it turns out disastrous). Then it jumps back in time and replays the story to show what would happen if Jack got the spiked drink. It was an interesting approach to storytelling.

The cast is beautiful to look at and the story is interesting enough. This concept had the chance to turn into a silly farce, but the story is kept grounded by the actors and the story moves along nicely. If I have one complaint about the movie its that, while its filmed in Rome, very little of the country actually shows up on screen. The wedding takes place at what appears to be an estate in the country. There is one small scene of Jack running through the streets of the nearby town, but nothing about it makes it feel like it couldn't have been filmed in a studio with the same effect. If you plan to film on location, then maybe show more of the location than what they did.

Still, I enjoyed this movie immensely and it was a sweet, romantic comedy.
