A good mix of fairytales, but still straight forward
30 October 2022
This movie, about a poor farmer's son who embarks on a dangerous quest with his brothers to save the princess from a vile troll, is based on several elements from different Norwegian fairytales that are mixed in a good way. These made the movie more rich in content than it could have been with only one fairytale. Otherwise, the story is quite simple, as a regular fairytale should be, but at the same time, I wish it could be more advanced as a movie. The humor is the best part because of the hilarious characters. The actors are quite okay. I really liked Vebjørn Enger's (as Espen «Ash Lad») and Allan Hyde's (as Prince Fredrik) performance because they were so into their character. As a total, I think this movie is only recommending if you're familiar with Norwegian fairytales.
