Mastery of it is Undeniable
2 December 2022
The movie I saw was titled "Drunken Master II." I don't know the lore, but it's definitely unrelated to the first Druken Master film where Jackie Chan is the son of a martial artist and he learns "drunken boxing" from a sassy old man.

Aside from Chan, the rest of the cast is completely different and now it's not just about him going around and beating people up. This one has a plot and the situation is now of international proportions.

The first movie wasn't bad, but it was certainly less polished than this one. This one has a lot of funnier scenes and the martial arts bits seem a lot more extreme and theatrical. It's not just once that Chan or one of his associates fights a veritable army; Chan's fighting is even more acrobatic than it was before and now often looks like break dancing.

Aside from that, it's practically the same engine that this was designed on. Every problem in life, from the greatest to the smallest, is solved with outlandish high-flying kung fu, Jackie Chan pretends to be drunk when fighting, and Jackie Chan's father disapproves of his son's antics. Although this may be the best of them, if you seen one, you've seen them all.

Honourable Mentions: Red Heat (1988). The beginning of this film takes place in a Soviet steelworks, much like the ending of this one. I could have also referenced Terminator.
