7/10
Pretty much a spanish version of "Shutter Island"

Warning: Spoilers
What movie do you think of when you read the following items?!

1. a (private) investigator which arrives at a mental hospital to do a murder investigation

2. The mental hospital is large, situated in a remote and secluded location, with large woods surrounding the place

3. The weather is often bad with lots of rain and lightning

4. All takes place in a time where computers were not available and with a heavy emphasis on smoking cigarettes

5. The investigation includes many flashbacks to the time when the murder took place

6. A separate part of the mental hospital that is dark and dungeon-like: named "Ward C" in "Shutter Island" and "The Cage" in this movie.

Well, what comes immediately to my mind is Leonardo DiCaprio's "Shutter Island": a movie that holds spot #143 in IMDb's "top 250 movies of all-time". A further 'coincidence' is the duration of the movie... Both are around 2.5 hours in length, which is uncommonly long for a nowadays feature film.

So... recognizing all these similarities, it of course leads one to think that "God's Crooked Line" may have been completely inspired by "Shutter Island". Including even the very surprising ending of the latter movie.

I honestly hoped there would have been a different plot twist in this movie than "Shutter Island"... But everything actually happened in line with what you would expect if you have seen "Shutter Island".

So where I already had the indiciation that I may be watching a movie with a similar plot as "Shutter Island", I was still quite entertained by it. Whilst even the ending didn't come as a surprise, I would still vote this movie with a score of 6.6 / 10, just barely making it an IMDb rating of 7 stars.
