There is no Red Ryder bee bee gun or leg of lamp, but there is Darren McGavin as Murphy's dad, and taking over for the late Colleen Dewhurst, fellow stage legend Marian Seldes as Avery's madcap Aunt Brooke, squabbling with her former brother-in-law with delightful venom. Corky, dealing with the separation from Will, is depressed, and Jim is dealing with wife Doris being too busy with community theater, so along with Frank and Miles, they show up to keep Murphy and family company. The delightful Seldes easily steals the episode with her Tallulah Bankhead like personality, and has a nice chemistry with McGavin. A truly sweet episode that ends happily, with the late Colleen Dewhurst's picture quite visible. Seldes is hysterical, singing along with the carolers quite off key. Christmas sitcom episodes don't get better than this.
