Felt content at the end of a film. A feeling which I haven't felt in a while.
Film captures the life of a cinephile and his curiosity, passion, madness, love and sacrifice. The film is full of emotions and it takes you on a rollercoaster ride.
It did remind me of Cinema Paradiso (1988) in the beginning but as the film progressed I lost track of that thought and got fully engaged in the film.
Have to say the director has captured even the mundane activity of those little boys like betting on the lion's and being in such close proximity of them. Which I guess is normal for the kids in villages of Gujarat as lion's roam freely in such areas in that state.
It's so fascinating to see the kid's explore the world of cinema on their own without direct professional help. Setting up their projection room, mimicking sound effects or creating their own per say on their own with their imagination. Creating 'folley sound' while the projection is going on, the term which they are not even aware of in the film.
Directors vision of making the kids paint the building of 'Galaxy cinema' with stars which is not just literal but which also suggest the world of cinema which is filled with millions of film stars and a wide variety of films across the globe. Such simple thinking at the base level lifs the scene to a whole new level.
My heart was devastated when I saw his dreams shatter to pieces infront of his eyes. I could hear his heart shatter into million pieces as he watched his new found love getting destroyed infront of his eyes and the helplessness which he must have felt at that time. But the way the kid bounce back and behaves like an adult all of a sudden. Taking care of 'Fazal' after the horrific incident and not telling him the truth for his best. The sudden shift in his behaviour patterns which shows the maturity he attained at such a young age just because of that one incident.
He takes a different route to follow his dreams after that incident. But the same incident makes him even more determined to persue his dreams. The incident which makes him think things in a different light.
