Saccharin soap opera for the suckers
26 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The movie relies on plot holes to make it work. Ridiculous amounts of stupidity must be relied upon in order for Katie Holmes character Miranda to succumb to her victim like livelihood. She comes across as both tired, and lacking in commonsense. Living in a place she appears to have zero knowledge how to maintain all the while raising three kids as a widowed mother. She bumps into the main attraction Josh Lucas aka Bray a good Samaritan who takes giving to a whole new level. All the while Miranda is filled with suspicion since her life is going so well (sarcasm)she figures she should still rely on intuition that has not served her so well. Bray is a bit annoying with his continued unsolicited sage advice which he gives out more than Gandhi.

Spoilers: Of course, the entire movie would have been over in 15 minutes had Bray explained why he visited the sleepy town. Being that he is a teacher at Vanderbilt, you would think explaining things would be in his wheelhouse. Yet this is held off until much later. Just like a true soap opera. Also, why does Bray live in a mansion? This is never explained. We only can assume he did well in selling his adapted patent, or patents. When her house was damaged from the storm, why couldn't Miranda and kids stick around for a while and chip in with Bray? This was a huge turn-off for me. It made her look lazy and looking for everyone to give her a handout. In the end, she finally turns her self around and rights her ship. But the fairytale ending was completely unnecessary and a true Hallmark, Disney type ending going into the fantasy realm. There should almost be a disclaimer at the end saying: This is all complete b.s. And will never happen to you.
