Review of M*A*S*H

M*A*S*H (1970)

What a romp!

This film is crazy. So is war.

This film does not tell a simple, linear script. Instead it is a lot of disjointed scenes strung together. It works as entertainment and it makes its point.

There are quite a few laugh out loud moments. I don't think the film hits home on the waste and human suffering of war like the series did. The film is more about the main characters acting out in shenanigans to desperately hold onto their sanity.

I have seen about half a dozen Robert Altman films and I am convinced Altman just showed up, almost ignored the script and had all the actors do the work with very little direction or preparation. I think he was blessed with more luck than brilliance.
