Why is this a Hellraiser movie?

Hellraiser: Inferno (2000) is currently available on HBOMAX. The storyline follows a detective tracking down a string of murders that tie to a strange man who works through an underground network of pain and torture. The man goes by the nickname, "the engineer." As the detective gets closer to the engineer the murders get closer and closer to him until he becomes a suspect himself. Can the detective stop the mad man before he is arrested for the crimes?

This movie is directed by Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange) and stars Craig Sheffer (Fire in the Sky), Nicholas Turturro (The Longest Yard), James Remar (Tales from the Darkside), Doug Bradley (NightBreed), Lindsay Taylor (17 Again) and Noelle Evans (Frankenfish).

Why is this a Hellraiser movie? I didn't think the space storyline could get worse...they found a way. It's too bad because the horror effects were top notch. The kills, gore and cenobites were awesome. It was nice to see some new cenobites, but they weren't in the film enough, which could also be said about Pinhead. There's so much random concepts and themes in this that didn't work; like, why did we need cowboys? The main character and premise was kind of annoying and I spent the entire movie trying to figure out how does this have anything to do with Hellraiser? As the big reveal happens at the end, I just felt like it was an excuse to call it a Hellraiser movie. Pinhead in the movie felt unnecessary.

Overall, this is the worst of the first five Hellraiser movies and I'd definitely recommend skipping it. I would score this a 4/10.
