Absolutely gorgeous
13 May 2023
My little one is two and a half and a huge fan of the books, which are deceptively simple, beautifully illustrated and just a little bit weird. So I approached this with some trepidation. I need not have worried. The animation is absolutely gorgeous. The watercolour textures from the books are preserved and every frame is full of the most wonderful blink-and-you'll-miss-them details. Cotton wool steam emerges from a kettle, at Square's house a tapestry of the three friends holding hands hangs on the wall. The stories are sweet and funny and yes, just a little bit weird. The voice acting and narration are pitch perfect.

I don't think my toddler is the target audience, it's pitched at slightly older kids and I'm pretty sure most of the jokes go over his head, but he loves it all the same, and so does his mother. As my son would say.. "more please".
