Review of Mischief

Mischief (1985)
6/10
Enhanced by the Presence of Kelly Preston

This film essentially begins in 1956 with a teenager by the name of "Eugene 'Gene' Harbrough" (Chris Nash) having to relocate from Chicago to a small town in Ohio with his father "Claude Harbrough" (Terry O'Quinn). As it so happens, not long after he arrives, he meets another teenager his age named "Jonathan Bellah" (Doug McKeon) who is friendly but is also rather shy--especially around girls. Learning of this, Eugene asks which particular girl he is most attracted to, and Jonathan responds by pointing to the most beautiful one in school named "Marilyn McCauley" (Kelly Preston). So, in order to help his new friend, Eugene takes it upon himself to teach him how-to pick-up girls. Meanwhile, another girl in school named "Bunny Miller" (Catherine Mary Stewart) happens to catch Eugene's eye as well. Unfortunately, Bunny has an extremely jealous boyfriend by the name of "Kenny Brubaker" (D. W. Brown) and he doesn't tolerate anybody trying to move in on his girlfriend. Now, rather than reveal any more, I will just say that this was a decent comedy for the most part with Kelly Preston putting in one of the best performances of her career. Likewise, both Doug McKeon and Catherine Mary Stewart also performed quite well. That being said, while this film may not be one of the best comedies ever produced, it still has a certain charm to it, and I have rated it accordingly. Slightly above average.
