The lesser chapter in the franchise but not that bad
22 June 2023
I really loved the first three HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA chapters and I didn't even expected it: they were greatly animated and voice acted, very funny and with lots of great messages situations. However I was a bit reticent for the fourth chapter because it came straight to Amazon and Adam Sandler didn't returned to dub Drac. Regardless of those issues, last March I finally saw it and while I didn't loved it like the other chapters I mildly liked it.

After the events of the third film Dracula and his friends are celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Hotel Transylvania with Johnny (voice by Andy Samberg) that nearly ruins the party. After Drac tells Johnny of an old law where it says that he can't give in inheritance the hotel to a human, Johnny complains of his sad situation and is heard by Abraham Van Helsing (Jim Gaffigan) that offers to transform Johnny into a monster with the monsterification ray that can transform humans in monsters and viceversa. Van Helsing transforms Johnny in a dragon and he is chasen by Drac with the ray and Drac ends up transformed in a human and, after destroying the ray all his friends end human as well. Their only hope is to go to Central America for stealing a rare crystal for restoring the ray. Drac and Johnny go in South America and head to the jungle, and, as you might expect, they don't get along (with Drac sweating all the time since he is an human now and risking to fall from a cascade only to be saved by dragon Johnny) until all the gang shows up, after various misadventures restore the crystal and return all monsters to the restored castle.

The CGI is great not surprisingly and there were some funny moments here and there. What makes this a low point in the franchise is the sorely missing of Sandler as Drac and also that some of the gags looked like recycled from the previous movies. But as it is, is an ok animated movie bound to keep small children entertained and, mildly, their parents that get suckered to watch it with them.
